Learn More About Haas Cabinets

Full Overlay Miter

A miter is a joint formed by beveling the edges of two pieces of wood at 45 degrees, then fitting these angle cuts together to form a right angle. Full overlay is a term used in kitchen cabinet design. It means your kitchen cabinet doors and drawers overlay most of the cabinet frame, so that the frame is not visible. There are ten styles of full overlay mitered doors.

Haas Kitchen cabinet door styles: square center panels on wall and base doors.

All miter door stylings use 5-piece drawer fronts on base units.

All Haas kitchen cabinet doors are available in cherry and maple hardwoods, except the Haas Hermitage line, which is available only in hickory hardwood.

Full Overlay Mortise and Tenon

For centuries, wood craftsmen have used the mortise and tenon joint as a reliable foundation in joining two pieces of wood at a right angle. With Haas' full overlay mortise and tenon kitchen cabinet designs, most of the cabinet frame is not visible.

Kitchen cabinet door styles: square center panels on wall and base doors, except for Estate, which comes with either square or arch wall door center panels. There are 16 styles available.

All Haas mortise and tenon overlay door styles, except for Sonoma, are available with either a 5-piece or slab style drawer front. Available in cherry, hickory, maple, and oak hardwoods.

Traditional Mortise and Tenon

Traditional mortise and tenon designs provide a strong wood joint by fitting together a tenon (projection) in one piece into a mortise (groove) in another. With Haas' traditional mortise and tenon kitchen cabinet designs, most of the cabinet frame is visible.

There are six main styles of traditional mortise and tenon kitchen cabinet designs.

  • Dresden: featuring square, flat center panels with center mullion on wall and base units.
  • Federal: available with square, arch, or cathedral raised center panels on walls and standard square raised center panels on base units. Not available with cathedral center panel on doors in maple.
  • Lancaster: available with square and arch flat center panels on walls and standard square center panels on base units.
  • Rockford: raised square center panel. Profile features a large flat area around the perimeter. This flat area allows applied molding to be added to the door in a picture framing effect.
  • Stafford: raised applied molding picture frames the square, flat center panel.
  • Madison: two-step raised center panel in square, arch and cathedral on wall, square on base.

Two different drawer front styles are available on any "Traditional" overlay selection:

  • Slab drawer front
  • 5-piece drawer front

Traditional mortise and tenon kitchen cabinet designs are available in cherry, hickory, maple, and oak hardwoods.

Craftsman Beaded Inset Door

The Craftsman Series is available in cherry and maple woods only. There are five door styles available. Wall cabinets will have the same door styling as the base cabinets.

  • Bedford: a reverse raised (solid) panel door style with applied molding around the door center panel and slab drawer front.
  • Georgetown: a raised panel door style and slab drawer front.
  • Langford: a raised panel door style with applied molding around the door center panel and slab drawer front.
  • Richmond: a reverse raised (solid) panel door style with a Shaker inside edge profile and slab drawer front.
  • Richmond Beaded: a reverse raised (solid) panel door style with vertical beads in the center panel with a Shaker inside edge profile and slab drawer front.

All current cherry finishes are available on cherry product in the Craftsman Series. All current maple finishes are available on maple product in the Craftsman Series. Craftsman Series products have an identical finish (chemically and in application methods) to other Haas products with one exception. If a glazed finish is ordered, the beaded front frame will have glaze applied in the beaded area. This bead may also grab and trap more pigment on some misted finishes, resulting in a darker finish appearance in the bead.

  • Mocha
  • Cream
  • Ebony
  • Pewter

  • Taupe

Wood Species & Color Finishes

Haas cabinetry includes cabinets made from the most popular series of furniture-grade hardwoods: cherry, hickory, maple and oak. Cabinet doors are made from solid hardwoods--no particleboard center panels like found in panels from most manufacturers. All Haas wooden products are available in a variety of finishes. Cabinets manufactured at Haas comply with the rigorous standards set by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and sponsored by the Kitchen Manufacturers Association (KCMA).

  • Cherry - Haas cherry cabinets are just that--cherry, not soft maple or alder woods stained red to fool you into thinking it's cherry. Real cherry is often considered the top-of-the-line in hardwoods. Most expensive and fine furniture is made of this wood which is characterized by its fine, uniform grain patterns. Cherry is mostly finished in a dark red or brown color. All cherry products will darken somewhat with age due to exposure to sun or artificial light.

Color Finishes: Natural, Honey, Cinnamon, Spice, Rose, Espresso
  • Hickory - Hickory is a very strong, close-grained wood that is known to have wide variations in colors. These color variations will range from white to chocolate brown. Hickory wood is often used as an alternative to oak for consumers who prefer an open-grained wood, but have tired of the traditional oak look. Hickory, with its extreme strength and flexibility, is used often in the manufacturing of ax handles and other products where strength is desired.

Color Finishes: Natural, Honey, Cinnamon, Medium, Espresso
  • Maple - All Haas maple cabinets utilize hard maple, rather than the less expensive soft maple used by most manufacturers. Hard maple is a close-grained wood that is predominately white in color. Hard maple is known for its strength and shock resistance and is used in the manufacturing of wood floors and bowling alleys. Due to its close graining, maple is mostly stained in a light color or whitewashed and can provide the consumer with a very contemporary look in a wood product.

Color Finishes: Natural, Honey, Spice, Pearl, Espresso
  • Oak - All Haas oak cabinets use 100% select red oak. Red oak is a very strong, open-grained wood that ranges in color from salmon-pink to almost white. Oak is the most used wood in the manufacturing of cabinets and fine furniture and is considered the standard of wooden products.

Color Finishes: Natural, Honey, Cinnamon, Medium, Espresso
